MAGIC BOX
A data collaborative platform to track mobility in real-time. it uses publicly available and private data sources which are anonymized and aggregated to share insights that can help support programmatic implementation and emergency contexts.
The project was working alongside with data scientists, developers along with Private and Public Sector Partnerships.

SCHOOL MAPPING

Having accurate data about schools is key for organizations, governments, and partners to provide quality education, promote lifelong learning, ensure equal access to opportunity and eventually, reduce poverty. However, most educational facilities’ records are often inaccurate, incomplete or non-existent.
SOLUTION:
We’re building a tool using high-resolution satellite imagery and applying Deep Learning techniques to map every school in the world. The data generated and visualized will help identify where the gaps and information needs, serve as evidence when advocating for connectivity, and help national governments optimize their education systems.
ACTION/IMPACT:
We currently have data on schools’ location and connectivity from several countries such us Brazil, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Uganda, and Rwanda with over 150,000 data points collected. To support this work, UNICEF is conducting research and case studies and partnering with private sector and UN agencies to accelerate the development and use of the platform. With this information, we aim to improve our efforts preparedness and response in emergencies such as epidemics and natural disasters, understand how connectivity can be used to support learning -- providing relevant, personalized content and to advocate with governments for equitable access to connectivity.
