Coaster Jam is an exploratory concept for a simple musical drinking game. Each person has a coaster with a specific instrument printed and is able to add notes to the collective composition by placing the drink on the Musical Coaster.

The coasters have coloured imprints which can be tracked using an overhead camera. The lifting of the can exposes the colour to the camera and triggers to add notes in Ableton Live.

Using the DAW Ableton Live as a sequencer, the triggering of new notes can be constrained to specific tonal scales and quantized rhythmic intervals thereby ensuring a musical experience .
